Culham St Gabriel’s

Culham St Gabriel’s Trust (Registered charity no. 309671)  supports research, development and innovation in religion and worldviews education, equipping and resourcing teachers and educational professionals to deliver broad-based, critical and reflective RE.

An independent charitable trust with roots stretching back decades, Culham St Gabriel’s works to champion religion and worldviews education at every level,  from classroom practice to national policy. Their vision is of a subject that contributes to a well-informed, respectful and open society, and they pursue this through a distinctive combination of funding, free resources, professional development and active campaigning.

Central to their offer is RE:ONLINE, a free, curated website providing teachers with reliable subject knowledge, CPD signposting, research, blogs and resources. Alongside this, their e-learning platform hosts free courses on areas including curriculum, research methodology and beginning teaching in RE. Their biennial RExChange conference brings together teachers, teacher-researchers and higher education specialists to share research and practice, and their in-conversation events and focus weeks,  including a recent collaboration on oracy and RE,  offer regular opportunities for professional engagement.

Culham St Gabriel’s also funds the RE Policy Unit and campaigns actively on issues including freedom of religion or belief, teacher recruitment and retention, and the place of religion and worldviews in the national curriculum,  working with policymakers and partner organisations to represent the subject at a national level.

Who do they support? Culham St Gabriel’s supports teachers, educational professionals, researchers and leaders working in religion and worldviews education across England and Wales. All of their programmes, e-learning and the RE:ONLINE website are freely open to all.

Funding and scholarships The Trust offers project grants of up to £30,000 for innovative research and development projects, as well as doctoral, masters and leadership scholarship programmes,  each including mentoring, community of practice access, and support for disseminating research.
