CfSA Statement on the publication of the Curriculum and Assessment Review

The Council for Subject Associations (CfSA) welcomes the publication of the Department for Education’s Curriculum and Assessment Review Final Report: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/curriculum-and-assessment-review-final-report

We will be looking for a clear recognition of the value of subject expertise in curriculum design and teaching, and for a strong re-emphasis on the importance of a broad and balanced range of subjects being taught by skilled, knowledgeable specialists.

The CfSA believes that every learner should have access to a curriculum that inspires, motivates, and prepares them to thrive now and in the future world.

A broad, balanced, inclusive, and relevant curriculum, taught by subject experts using subject-appropriate pedagogies, is essential to nurturing a love of learning and enabling every child and young person to reach their potential.

In particular, we will be examining how the review addresses subject-specific concepts, pedagogies, the breadth of curriculum offerings, and pathways for all learners across general, academic and vocational routes.

We will be consulting closely with our member Subject Associations to provide a detailed collective response that reflects the expertise and perspectives across all subject areas.
