Economics, Business & Enterprise Association (EBEA)

Subject description: Economics, Business and Enterprise Education, including financial literacy, (EBE) have a crucial role to play in preparing young people for their future lives. Economics and business are very popular choices at Key Stage 4 and post-16.Vocational business courses are popular and valuable options at Key Stage 4 and post-16.Provision for EBE outside of examination courses, for example through PSHE or citizenship. This results in large numbers of young people leaving school or college being disadvantaged and ill-prepared for adult life as consumers, producers and citizens. A major hindrance to raising the quality of teaching in economics and business is the alarming shortage of specialist teachers. Approximately one in five lessons is taught by a non-specialist.

About your SA: The Economics, Business and Enterprise Association (EBEA) is the professional subject association for everyone interested in the teaching and study of Economics, Business and Enterprise and the only subject association representing teachers of those subjects in schools and further education.

Our core mission is to improve the economic and business understanding and capability of learners in schools and colleges. We regard this as vital not only to their personal and professional life chances but to the well-being of society locally, nationally, and internationally.

To achieve this, we prioritise:

· Support for teachers and educators: we provide forums for business and economics teachers and initial teacher educators to share expertise and experience.

· Professional development: we deliver professional development for teachers through information, resources, training, and opportunities to disseminate their practice.

· Promotion of education: we work with government departments, awarding bodies, employers, and other organisations to promote business, economics, and enterprise education.
