• Hold a formal debate about compulsory military service. An outline of common arguments for and against can be found in the Wikipedia entry for conscription



• Extend the exploration of the poetry by also considering the parody 'The Baking of Tarts'



• Language in the workplace is explored in depth in the LINC materials (see References for more information). More exploration is possible, with structured activities and extended footage of the day in the language life of a hospital.



• The LINC materials were produced in the early 1990s. Perhaps a kindly local doctor might review the doctor-patient interaction clip and discuss with students the extent to which language use in this context might have changed since then.
